Charting New Territory - Let the Marketing Begin!
So, I left off trying to improve myself and my new business. No small task since self improvement is really more difficult than the gurus want you to believe! Good news is, as promised, I actually did (or at least TRIED) a little of both since my last post! Really good considering it's time for shopping and kids' parties and work parties and trying to cram 3 weeks of work into 4 days!
I've been reading a book which really seems to have things going on - and REALLY makes you think about what's important: "The 4-Hour Workweek" by Timothy Ferris. He has some really good ideas in there. And I'm only a couple chapters in! But seriously, it's definitely thought provoking. Anything you read that makes you want to yell at the book is good. You are LIVING not just existing! This week I plan on really delving into the exercises in the book to see just how (my new word coming at 'cha) 'zombified' I am, and if there is hope to resurrect any semblance of myself. Yeah, it's that deep. And that, my friends, is DEFINITELY uncharted territory for me!
Another place I've never really been is on the MARKETING side of ANY business. I'm an engineer. I fix stuff. I don't "sell" stuff. So this marketing is quite new and challenging. The internet is FULL of fun and hazards, so it's difficult to work your way around sometimes. Fortunately I have great upline support and people who are experienced in this type of activity as well as willing to help a nerd out!
The initial things to do were really simple - download marketing materials from my uVme backoffice on my website. There is a wealth of information available to all members - all you have to do is READ it!
I am a big fan of gmail and I am using that for my business email address. It's best to keep your personal mail and business mail separate because well you might miss some biz email and you don't want to do that! Here's a quick way to get google mail if you haven't already:
First thing was to get a domain name and set up a website. After much debate I finally decided on a domain that I hope attracts others! Having set up a few websites before this wasn't a new thing to me. It's not really that difficult but you have to know a bit of information but it's readily available. Here's where the fun begins... I had to start using traffic exchanges - this is where you manually click for credits so that YOUR website gets displayed so you get eyeballs on YOUR website and HOPEFULLY surfers too! There are several ways to do this - if you have money (that's great) you can pay for these services. But if you are like me and have just enough to have lunch most everyday you'll want to use the free service. It's still getting people to look at your site. That's the key.
So I've been clicking all weekend! I even "employed" my children! They like matching the pictures... (this is to make sure you are not cheating...) So I made dinner while they clicked. They are reading me the websites too! So fun for them and for me!
So, my next post will update my personal progress (hopefully!) and DEFINITELY some business progress as well!
See ya on the 'net!
